The holidays behind the subtraction

Common questions

How many working days does 2026 have in Canada?

251261 Mon–Fri weekdays minus 10 national holidays that land on a weekday. Regional and local holidays sit outside the national set and would lower the number further where they apply.

How many working days is that per month, on average?

About 20.9 per month — but the spread matters more than the average: 63 working days in Q1 against 62 in Q4. A plan that assumes a flat month overcommits exactly where the calendar is thinnest.

Does this include vacation or booked time off?

No — this is the ceiling the calendar sets before anyone books leave. A team’s real capacity subtracts each person’s time off and part-time arrangement from these days; that is what the capacity calculator computes for a whole team, per member country.

Rule source: Canada Labour Code s.195, rules last verified 2026-08-03. Federal general holidays only. Provincial holidays vary widely — Family Day, the August civic holiday and Quebec's Saint-Jean-Baptiste are all excluded — and Boxing Day is a general holiday only for federally regulated employers. A holiday landing on a weekend is shown on the following working day, but the Canada Labour Code permits the working day before or after, so the substitute date here is modelled and an employer may designate the other one.

Now subtract your actual team

251 days is the calendar’s ceiling for one person in Canada. A real team spans countries, books leave, and works part-time — the calculator does that arithmetic for your headcount in seconds, no account.
